My second first day of kindergarten...
Robert, head of the volunteers, comes over to Pachamama at 6:00a everyday to cook us porridge- I actually don't mind oatmeal but this stuff does not even have milk in it and he makes enough for like 30 people, very strange.
Myself and three other volunteers left for school at 7:30a. It is a 30min. walk up and around the side of a mountain- it´s safe to say that every family here owns a donkey, pig, goat, sheep, rooster, cow and wild dog.
At 8a I went to the kindergarten class. There were 8 kids ages 2-5, the ¨teachers¨ didn't seem too excited to hear me say, ¨no habla Espanol¨. However, the kids warmed up to me quickly calling me Soflea and putting their dirty little hands all through my hair.
The school has 4 additional grade levels. After lunch I sat in on a few other classes (English and poetry) taught by two of the french volunteers.
Most Salasacans speak Spanish and/or Quichua, so by 2p my head was about to explode. Aeri, the Korean volunteer, and I decided to head home early (mostly to avoid using the school´s organic style restrooms). We did get lost coming down the mountain but eventually found our way back to Pachamama.
