Hasta Luego My American Brothers and Sisters of the South and Hello Central America
You always meet the most interesting people at the bus station, why is that?
I had 3 hours to kill before my San Jose bus. I met a techno DJ from Panama (Loco People is the new jam), a 50 yr-old couch surfer from Connecticut and some young Costa Rican mother who talked to me for about an hour before I finally told her I didn't speak Spanish...I pretty much got everything she said, I think.

About five hours later....
Oh and all those living vicariously through my blog, you may want to take the night off....
I had been on the bus for about two hours when the front starts rattling, then violently shaking (like going off the cliff any second now shaking) and then BAM! something definitely fell from under the back half and we are at a dead stop. At this point, I have no clue where we are, I fell asleep (I've been traveling straight for about 48 hours) and its about ten at night. To my surprise we get another bus an hour later and I have to run across the highway with my 50 pound pack on my back, but not before two police officers race up to the bus holding, (I'm no gun expert but I'm going to go with) machine guns. Not really sure how that all ended I was too busy hauling ass across five lanes of traffic in the dark.
Oh, but it gets better, our "new" bus is really dark inside and I am doing everything I can not to fall back asleep cause I'm not quite sure where I'm getting off and the seats are so small I'm squished up next to my seatmate and don't have much control over my bag that happens to have the last of my cash in it. But back to the point, I'm staying awake by watching this small roach looking bug crawl up my window wondering if it's on the inside or outside when all the sudden I can feel them crawling on my legs and arms! Needless to say it was the worst bus ride EVER and I'm sure I looked like that loca girl on the bus.....
Got into town late but I woke up to this little fellow in the morning.....
If only he made me breakfast! Whose the one in the cage now? |
PURA VIDA!!!! Made it to Costa Rica! Can't explain the feeling of dropping my bags and knowing that I don't have to pick them back up for the next couple of weeks! It's absolutely gorgeous! Pictures coming soon!
